Introduction To A Future Pharmacist

A picture of my dog Noah and I.
Hi All!

My name is Jennifer, and I'm from Mustang Oklahoma which is roughly 40 minutes away. I'm a junior here at OU and I'm majoring in biology and plan on attending pharmacy school. When I started college I really wanted to be a marine biologist but that was shut down really quick when I realize we are in a land-locked state (lol.) I still hope to fulfill that dream and move somewhere where I can study the processes of marine life! My number one accomplishment of last semester was making straight A's, it was the first one in a long time and it was a lot of work but definitely worth it. I now have a job so i hope i can get my time management on track so I can spend more time with school this semester because I notice college is literally flyyyyingggg by.

Some of my favorite things to do in my spare time is watching TV, play with makeup or play with my dogs.  One of my top TV shows right now is "Wentworth" which is a number one show in Australia. Its a show about a women's correctional center and its always extremely entertaining to watch (literally watched all seven seasons in a record-breaking time... maybe... idk.) Its also on Netflix so if you're into R rated prison shows i would highly recommend this show. I also play with makeup, which sounds weird but I'm not that good at doing my own makeup but i like to get creative with it when I have time. My dogs live with my mother in Mustang so I go home and hang out with them when I'm free!

Some new things I'm getting into are Yoga and cooking, so if anyone has any favorite dishes they like to make please drop them down below. Or if anyone had any music for good meditation let me know. I'm trying some new things out and also want to try out some new places to eat in Norman, so everyone should drop their recommendations below!! I want to hear every recommendation everyone has. Hidden gems, holes in the wall, mom and pop shops... I want to hear it all!

I mostly listen to rock alternative music and always looking for new cool music, so if anyone has a favorite band I would love to hear some opinions!

Also, if I had a day to do anything I would just go to the pool and get drunk because i feel like i haven't been able to have a "me day" in forever!

Feel free to leave any questions or comments down below, I would love to hear feedback about anything or answer any questions.
Hope you enjoy reading about me!

  1. What a great picture, Jenny; your Noah is such a cutie! And pharmacy is a great career that can take you anywhere... maybe you will get to go live in Tucson after all! Both yoga and cooking are great topics to pursue in this class; maybe you will think about a yoga project or a food project. One of my very favorite writers in India just published a beautiful new book this summer about yoga and its connections to the Indian epics and other storytelling traditions; you might want to take a look: Yoga Mythology: 64 Asanas and Their Stories (and if you're interested, that's something you can do as extra credit reading; those Kindle books are so convenient because you can read them on any device, including on your phone with the Kindle app). Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the class and find some good connections with your interests! :-)

    1. Hi Laura,
I hope one day I can live in Arizona, but truthfully I want to live everywhere. I have such a desire to travel and get to know the earth. I will check out that book on Yoga because I dont know a whole lot about it yet besides the basics. Thank you so much.

  2. Jenny it is so interesting to know you love Yoga and cooking. I remember the old time when I used to accompany my grandma and do 12 sets of sun salutation every morning when I was a kid with her while the sun rises. I used to repeat chants such as "Om suryaya namaha" after her and have been doing sun salutation on daily basis every morning since I was 4 years old. I also enjoy cooking- specifically Indian food with lemon grass, spices and rice with curry and naan bread, my mother believed that I should know how to cook Indian cultural food as in my bording school in UK there is no one who can cook Indian food and so this was my way of preserving my Indian food culture and spicing it up.

  3. Hey Jenny! I think it's really cool that you like to cook. What's your favorite dish to make? I'm not great at cooking myself but I wish I was. I also had a lot of pool days this summer and now that the semester's started I'm really going to miss them. How many dogs do you have and what breed are they?

  4. Hi Jenny! Pharmacy is unique field for sure, I have a couple family members that have been in the pharmacy field for a number of years now and I find it interesting in the knowledge that they need to have. I love that your interested in exploring Norman as I've only been here for two years and yet I still feel like I haven't even come close to exploring all the food spots here in Norman. However, if you just need a place to go after classes are over for the day and just have place to just relax I recommend O'Connell's on campus corner, I spend a good chunk of time there during the semester.

  5. Hi, Jenny! I think pharmacy sounds like a really neat degree field! I don't know much about it, but I know it is constantly changing. That will be really neat to see how much that field changes over time! I think marine biology sounds like a fascinating field too! Have you ever been to the Aquarium in the Jenks/ Tulsa area? They have a shark tunnel that you can walk through and so many different marine animals! My favorite are the jellyfish! They are so pretty! It's definitely worth a visit if you've never been! I also really love yoga! It's so relaxing. I'm not sure if they still offer this, but they used to offer yoga at the Sam Noble museum on Friday mornings at 8 for free for all OU students! I've never been some of my friends have been and they love it! You should definitely check it out! Also, if you're looking for good food places in Norman I recommend Victoria's and Tarahumara's! Both are absolutely delicious!!

  6. Hey Jenny! I'm from Yukon so you're like my rival neighbor! Don't worry, i'm friendly. Marine biology would be awesome, dang Oklahoma for not having a beach! Your puppy is ADORABLE. I am working on my makeup skills as well, but they're totally lacking. I can't help with yoga, or music (as much as I love it), but I wish you a good semester!

  7. Hey Jenny,

Want to start of by saying that Noah is amazing and I love him already. Also, you should definitely NOT give up on marine biology! While we may be a landlocked state, there are tons of lakes in Oklahoma. Marine biology includes lakes too!

I have actually been super interested in yoga. I went to a class about a year ago and loved it. I just haven't pushed myself to go again.

  8. Hey Jenny! I find it interesting that you want to be a marine biologist - that's what I always wanted to be when I was younger. I'm not sure which direction you want to go with marine biology, but rivers inside the US are in dire need of saving as many major river systems in the US have suffered severe habitat loss (especially the Missouri River). Also, your puppy is very cute; I want to pet it.

  10. Hey Jenny! I love how you included a picture of your dog. Thank you for that because I love dogs and hope to have one in the near future. I am trying to get into cooking as well! However, it seems like I can only good breakfast items. I would like to expand my horizon, but I just can't cook! It was nice meeting you!

  11. Hi Jenny! Because you're from Mustang I feel obligated to ask if you were in the band? Mustang's marching shows were always great to watch! Yikes, I've always hated biology but good luck going through pharmacy school! A few of my friends are in it now or are preparing and they say it can be a lot of work! And that stinks about the marine biology, hopefully someday you'll get to pursue that area of work! Finally I have to say your dog is super cute!

  12. Hi Jenny! You should be proud for making straight A's last semester! As a student worker, I can relate all too well about how hard it is to maintain your grades when you lose all that free time you once devoted to overachieving in your classes to your place of employment. My advice: when you find yourself overwhelmed, talk to your teachers! They're often more understanding than you'd think. As for the shows/music/Norman restaurants/recipes that I recommend, might I suggest How To Get Away With Murder(as it is somewhat related to the criminal justice system)/Lo-Fi music for sleeping and studying/Tea Cafe on Campus Corner/a really good and basic rice crispy treat, found here: https://cookiesandcups.com/perfect-rice-krispie-treat-recipe/

  13. Hi Jenny! I’m also from Mustang! What a small world! I don’t believe we’ve ever met, but it’s nice running into you here! Congrats on the straight A’s! Truly an accomplishment worth being proud of. Your dog is so cute! I love doing makeup too, but I’m… not the best. It’s fun though! It sounds like you live a busy life, I hope you get the time to relax by the pool soon! Good luck with the semester!

  14. Hello Jenny,
I know that joyous feeling of making straight As on a semester so I am really happy for you. I wish I live closed to home so that I could see my family more often. I think college limits me days but try to fit them in where you can! And let me guess you like orange is the new black?

  15. Hi Jenny! Pharmacy school sounds like a great career path, but I hope you also get to follow your dreams of being a marine biologist! One of my friends from OU had an internship in Florida all summer rehabilitating injured baby sea turtles, so anything is possible! I love that your blog is ocean themed and your last story I read also took place in the ocean. I can tell you are still really interested in marine life! I replied to Alex’s introduction last week, and he mentions a lasagna recipe that sounds incredible!

I am quite the foodie so I’m about to list all of my favorite restaurants since you mention it. Norman has the best Thai food I have ever had. My favorites are O Asian fusion (Spicy basil noodle and yellow curry are the best), and Thai delight & Pad Thai have the best pad Thai. Neighborhood Jam is my favorite brunch place ever; they have one in Tulsa too and I go every chance I can get (all of their food is good, but their biscuits and jalapeno peach jam/apple butter are what get me). Also, you can’t beat $2 Tuesdays at The Winston right next door to Neighborhood Jam! If you like ramen/pho, Tatsumaki and Magic noodle are great. I’m not sure if Ozzies is back open yet, but they have unlimited breakfast for like $5 and it is freshly made on order, and for $7 they also have unlimited catfish on Fridays. Land Run grill also has unlimited catfish, but I’m not sure what day. If you like good cheap Chinese food, you can’t go wrong with China Wonder’s lunch special. Carol’s kitchen has some yummy classic home-style food. If you like Indian food, Taste of India’s chicken tikka masala is unreal (but also a little overpriced), and there is an Indian food buffet in Moore called Himalayas that is also delicious. Okay I’m done, sorry I talked about food so much.

  16. Hello,
It’s crazy how you went to a school in the town right next to mine! I ended up growing up in Tuttle which is quite close. I also must say that is an adorable picture of your dog. I am a huge dog lover as well as cat lover. I always hear about yoga from my fiancĂ© but I am not sure if it is something I would be able to do since I am not very flexible…What are your favorite rock band?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi Jenny! I really love alternative rock too, and you should definitely check out The Greeting Committee. I know the drummer, Austin. He's really cool, and I love their band's sound. Also, I'm a junior and college is absolutely flying by! Especially for me since I'm graduating early in May (scary!). What's your favorite band? And Sarah is right, my lasagne is incredible haha.

  18. Hi Jenny! I had no idea we were in this class together. Your dog is so adorable!! I am a dog lover as well. My roommate has a golden retriever named Scout and she is precious. We should plan a doggy playdate! I also did not know you wanted to be a pharmacist but thats an awesome career field to go into. Good luck on your semester!

  19. Hi Jennifer!
The picture of you and your dog is adorable!!!! So when you finish pharmacy school, where would you like to work? I originally started college in hopes of becoming a pharmacist, but wanted to do the research part of it. Netflix has a ton of prison shows out right now. I have been watching First and Last. It’s more of a docuseries, but it shows inmates on their first day there and their last day there. I think it’s fascinating how people change. Also, for food, my husband and I like El Toro Chino. It’s a weird little place, but the chicken enchilada dip with wonton chips is pretty great. (That’s the only reason I go there). Good luck this semester and good luck in pharmacy school!

  20. Hi Jenny! I really enjoyed reading your introduction. Someone from the class I still haven't met yet! Your dog is adorable, I just love pets. Pharmacy sounds really interesting, I hope you get to accomplish your dream. I'm also starting to get into yoga. I've found that YouTube and Pintrest are great places to get started on those things. I'm also an aspiring minimalist because I hear it's better for one's mental health. And I'm all about supporting my mental health in any way I can! Good luck with the rest of your semester, you can finish this!

  21. Hey Jenny!

Pharmacy school may not be your dream but it is definitely a solid career choice. I laughed when you said its because your in a landlocked state! This is actually the first time I've ever lived in a landlocked state in my life. My last school in the PNW had a huge marine biology program... Pudget sound whales and what not. Your idea of a perfect day sounds amazing, count me in! I love cooking too and its a great adult skill to have! My favorite place for recipes is allrecipies.com!

  22. Hey Jenny,

I hope you get to fulfill your dreams of learning more about marine biology in the future. Although, I do think being a pharmacist is a super rewarding career choice also. I also enjoy cooking during my spare time. I like experimenting with flavors; I mostly make asian and Mexican dishes. I also enjoy making fusion dishes. Good luck on your next couple of semesters at OU. I'm a senior now, and I can't believe time flies by so fast!
