- Kunti was a young women who was unmarried and had no children
- she worked for a guru and maintained the garden
- although scared of her guru, she was kind to him and did everything he asked of her
- one day after picking vegetables in the garden, she came into to her guru waiting for her
- he told her he was very impressed with her work and wanted to give her a gift
- this gift was a spell of some sort that would give her a child with any god she could think of
- although she was confused with this gift she thanked him anyway
- later when she was at the river, she thought about her gift
- she was curious and wanted to see what it was all about
- she thought of a god, and he appeared in the sky
- he warned her that she must not be foolish with her gift
- she told him that she didn’t wish for a child
- the god told her he can not take the child back once he was summoned
- kunti then had a child, he was beautiful
- he had gold armor and earring from his ears
- she realized this would ruin her life if she had a child
- she was unmarried and her parents would not accept it
- she decided to send a basket with the baby into the river
- as the baby was floating down the river, a man who lived near the river was fishing when it caught his eye
- he began to go into the river until he had reached the basket
- when he realized it was a beautiful baby boy, his eyes lit up
- he took the child back to his house where he showed his wife
- they decided to keep the child and raise him as Karna

- they had wanted a child for so long
